Hi Group,
I have a question about budgets. We are a town of about 9,000 with three
elementary, one MS and one HS. I am the HS librarian and also the district
librarian (even though we aren't a large district, about 2000 students in all). We
have a full-time librarian and a full-time aide at each school. Aren't we lucky?
We did have quite wonderful budgets of $12,500 for each school and naturally (we
are in Oklahoma) they have been drastically reduced. We have an outstanding
superintendent who is very supportive of and interested in the school libraries.
He has suggested, in addition to each of our smaller budgets at each site,
that we maintain a general library budget that any library could use in case of
emergency. I would manage this. The other librarians are very happy with the
idea. (For example, we want to buy another inventory scanner, but no one school
wants to pay the $1000 on their own.) When introduced at a Principal's mtg. the
elementary principals had a fit! They are concerned that they will lose some of
their money. Which they won't. Do any of you have anything at all similar to this
way of budgeting and if you do could you let me know so I could take these ideas to
the principals. Thank you for your input.
