FWIW, folks:
While I'm not disparaging cruises, I do think our monies are better spent
supporting those official organizations that can represent us to the larger public.
Attending a *conference* sponsored by an official organization, such as AASL or
your state library association IS considered tax-deductible. OTOH. attending a
cruise/gathering for an assemblage of folks who belong to an *informal* (e.g.,
unsponsored, as in unregistered with the IRS) organization such as LM_Net is NOT
considered a business or educational tax expense by TPTB.
I've met LM_Netters in all kinds of places, including both "official" and
spontaneous gatherings at several state and national conferences. I know that
many of the workshop topics at this year's AASL will reflect concerns and topics
that are frequently discussed here.
In the long run, however, I think we (all) get more credibility by saying we
attended an LM_Net function at (fill in the blank)'s annual conference, than at
Carnival Cruise Lines.
Just my humble opinion...
