Excessive printing

Thanks to Ann Girres for posting a hit on excessive printing.  Like most of
you, I complain constantly about excessive printing.  We sometimes recycle
over 500 sheets a day of printing no one picks up.  Ignorance is one reason
students print so much. They don't know how to highlight their text and then
print only the selected text.  As I was looking though all of our networked
CD-ROM's including World Book, SIRS, etc., I noticed there are ways on the
setup of each of these to limit printing.  For example in World Book, on the
File menu, go to preferences.  You can limit the number of pages students
print as well as eliminate graphics.  In SIRS you can disable printing and
allow notepad so they can literally cut and paste what they really need.
Maybe instead of complaining and/or looking the other way, we need to take a
more proactive way of forcing students to be selective in their printing.
