The content and concepts of this unit will allow students to appreciate the complexity of this period of history. The United States now faces many problems such as racial discrimination, environmental pollution, homelessness, substance abuse, unemploymen t and domestic violence. Despite these situations, the country has forces within it which continue to unify society. It is important that both aspects are explored. In addition, the United States is becoming more and more interconnected to the rest of the world through technological advancements. Through this unit, the students will gain an understanding of our "shrinking planet."
