Content to be Covered:

1. The Great Depression resulted in massive unemployment which affected American society during the 1930s.

2. Living in the 1930s was dramatically different from life today.

3. Franklin D. and Eleanor Roosevelt had an important impact on the United States.

4. World War II had a great effect on many lives and culminated with the use of the atomic bomb.


Teacher's Rationale:

The content and concepts of this unit will allow students to have an understanding of the lifestyle during the 1930s-40s period of American history. The goal is for students to develop an appreciation for this time period by focusing on the Depression ye ars and the contributions made by Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt. Students will be made aware of the major events and personalities from the World War II era and discuss the bombing of Hiroshima which ended the war.
