Description: Students are engaged in a field-based study of human-made objects and processes that represent the economic and social development of the community throughout its history.
Goals: As a result of this study, students will demonstrate an understanding of the:
1) the economic development of the community
2) the social development of the community,
3) the history of the community
4) the unique qualities/characteristics of the community.
Objectives: Students will:
1) read about the economic and social development of the community,
2) read about historical personalities who influenced the economic and social development of the community,
3) write about the economic and social development of the community,
4) write about historical personalities who influenced the economic and social development of the community,
5) create visual presentations that depict the economic and social development of the community.
Materials:
Procedure:
Students conduct a study of the local community; focusing attention on the economic and social development of the built environment. During the course of this study, students interact with community resources; people, places, things, events, and processes.
Assessment:
Students exhibit knowledge acquisition and skills development by:
1) reading historical accounts,
2) writing about historical accounts,
3) discussing historical accounts,
4) creating visual presentations (bulletin board displays, posters, drawings),
5) making audiovisual presentations to the class.
