Grade Level(s): Kindergarten, 1, 2, 3, 4

Subject(s):

Description: This activity is wonderful to use to dye Easter Eggs. Even though all of the eggs may be made the same way, no two are exactly alike.

Goals: Students will learn how onions can color egg shells.

Objectives: Students will make their own uniquely colored eggs even though they've been given the same supplies and the same amount of time to cook their eggs.

Materials: 1 raw egg, 1 nylon, 1 pot, water, stove, pieces of raw red onion skin

Procedure:

  1. Have the student wrap the egg with the onion skin.
  2. Have the student place the wrapped egg in the bottom of a nylon.
  3. Tie a knot as close as possible to the egg.
  4. Boil the eggs the same amount of time that you would a hard boiled egg.
  5. Carefully remove the egg from the pot and let the egg cool.
  6. Have the student take the egg out of the nylon then unwrap it.
  7. Have the students compare and contrast the color of the egg shells.

Assessment:

Success=multi colored eggs.
