What Sound Does the Letter "Bb" Make?

Goals: The students will identify the letter "Bb" and the sound it makes.

Objectives: The students will identify the letter "Bb." The students will identify the sound the letter "Bb" makes.

Materials:

Procedure: Initiation: Review the letter "Aa" and the sound it makes. Introduce the letter "Bb" and the sound it makes. Make the students aware that they will be identifying words beginning with the letter "Bb" along with the sound the letter "Bb" makes. Show the students the letter "Bb" on an index card and distribute one to each student.

Body:

  1. Introduce the book to the students. Ask them what they think it is about.
  2. Read the story aloud. As you read, have the students raise their index cards whenever they hear the "Bb" sound.
  3. Hand the two posters. Read them aloud. Read them again with student participation. Ask the students to come to the board and circle the words containing the "Bb" sound. Review the words again after.
  4. Hand out the Big B, little b poem worksheet to the students. Explain that the students will circle the "Bb" sound and underline the actual letter "Bb." Correct the worksheets together.

Closure: Ask the students to tell you in their own words what they learned in class. Review the posters with the "Bb" word and "Bb" sounds.

Assessment: Evaluation: The students will: identify at least ten "Bb" flash card words with the book; circle at least one word on the posters; circle the "Bb" words and sounds and exclude no more than three words by the homework assignment worksheet.

Supplemental Activity/Homework: Hand out the Bye, baby bunting poem worksheets to the students. Explain that the students will circle the words containing the "Bb" sound and underline the actual letter "Bb." This assignment will be for homework, or as a supplemental activity.
